30 different but FABULOUS BEAUTY TRICKS

1. Sprinkle your roots
Sprinkle a bit of baking soda into oily areas of your hair as a dry shampoo, if you don’t have time to wash with regular shampoo. Comb the baking soda through your hair gently to avoid clumps, and then blow-dry with cool air for several seconds.

 2. Super-glue a split nail
Instead of tearing off your nail when it breaks, put a tiny dab of Super Glue over the split, and paint a generous layer of your favourite nailpolish shade over it. Go for an opaque option {like red, purple, or coral} to camouflage and seal the crack.

3. Fix calluses with Vaseline
Slather petroleum jelly over rough spots on your feet, and put on socks before bed to dissolve tough calluses overnight.

4. Spot-treat smudges Dip a cotton bud in eye-makeup remover, and trace it along your lids to quick-fix any slipups or smudges when there’s no time to redo your whole look.

5. Fix foundation overload
If you apply too much foundation, simply press a damp facecloth over you face to stop it from looking like a make-up mask!

6. Soften your skin with avocado
Take a ripe avocado, remove the pit and skin, and mash it up in a bowl. Slather it all over your body, let it sit for 20 minutes, then rinse off. Your skin will be sooo soft as avocado is a natural moisturiser.

7. Scent your hair with perfume
Spray a light shot of fragrance into the bristles of your brush. Brush your hair from roots to ends and your hair will smell amazing throughout the day.

8. Use makeup remover on stubborn lipstick
Don’t try to rub off red lipstick {which makes it smear across your mouth — not a good look}. Instead, take a cotton ball or tissue, dip it in makeup remover, and just dab to erase the dark stain fast.

9. Tame eyebrows with your eye cream Pat any kind of rich eye cream over brows to help keep them hydrated and stop those icky white specks that look like dandruff.

10. Fade away fake tan
If you find yourself streaking after applying self-tanner, put some baking soda on a loofah, and buff away the stripes.

11. Brush on hair spray
For the final step of your blow-dry, spray hair spray onto your brush, and run it through strands from roots to tips. This way, your hair isn’t so plastered and stiff but stillholds volume and shine.

12. Boost your body lotion with baby oil
If your skin dries out in winter, blend a drop of baby oil into your normal body lotion to add extra moisture.

13. Dab essential oil on neglected cuticles Put on apricot oil, the kind found in health-food stores, to protect cuticles from turning rough and raggedy.

14. Freeze your eyeliner
If the tip of your eyeliner pencil crumbles and smears all over your eyes, store your eyeliner in the freezer for 15 minutes before use so the tip is firm and goes across your skin smoothly.

15. Use toothpaste on a zit
Use just a pea-size amount. Let sit for 15 minutes to absorb the oil so the pimple won’t get more clogged, then wash off. [This is a fab tip my daughter adds toothpaste all the time.]

16. Heat up your curler
If you have stick-straight lashes, try blasting your metal eyelash curler with a hair dryer for a couple seconds to heat it up so your lashes bend more easily. And use a waterproof mascara. The formula dries faster than other mascaras, so it sets the curl better.

17. Use soap without water
You know those cute soaps that are actually too pretty to use? Toss them in your underwear or tee-shirt drawers to make your skin smell delicious.

18. Groom your eyebrows with a toothbrush
Mist an unused toothbrush or eyebrow comb with hair spray to help flatten and tame and shape your eyebrows.

19. Put nappy-rash cream on dry spots
Slather on a thick layer of nappy-rash cream to heal cracked elbows and feet.

20. Lubricate your lashes If you’re not a fan of wearing masacra every day, comb petroleum jelly lightly through the tips of eyelashes to get a subtle sparkle.

21. Steamroll frizzies and flyaways
Spray on hair spray, then roll the hairspray can over your hair. The round bottle fits the curved shape of your head, locks in the spray, and flattens out frizz.

22. Plump your kisser
Cinnamon is the active ingredient in many expensive lip plumpers — add a few sprinkles of cinnamon to your gloss or use cinnamon oil on your lips, which you can get at natural-food stores. It’s a lot cheaper and does the same thing.

23. Press a teabag on splotches
If your skin is sensitive or just looking irritated and puffy for some reason, steep a bag of green tea for a minute or two, let it cool down, and dab it over your face. The antioxidants in the tea take down inflammation.

24. Shave with conditioner
Apply a thick hair conditioner to your legs before you shave. It acts like a shaving cream and softens the hair so it’s easier to shave off and makes legs feel amazingly silky.

25. Boost your hair’s shine with vinegar
Mix one part vinegar with four parts carbonated water, and soak dry hair. Leave on for 15 minutes before you shampoo to lock in shine and combat dullness.

26. Customise your lipstick
When you’re tired of a lipstick shade, melt a few old ones together. Just cut off the stubs, pop them in the microwave, and pour into a little tin. Rub it on like lip balm.

27. Use every drop of perfume
When you get to the bottom of your scent and it won’t spray out anymore, pour it into your body wash or an unscented moisturiser to get more use out of it

28. Make an egg-white mask
To revive tired, dull skin try this: Crack open an egg in a bowl, separate the yolk, and use the egg whites to make a face mask. The proteins help to heal and restore skin’s moisture. Leave it on for five minutes, and rinse off.

29. Dry sensitive skin with toilet paper
Instead of drying your face with a scratchy towel, pat with toilet paper-it’s ultra soft on delicate skin.

30. Treat your feet
Add epsom salts to a foot bath to soothe tired feet and reduce swelling after a busy day!

My tip for flyaways
When moisturising your hands and you have rubbed it all in smooth it over your hair to keep flyaways at bay.

Do you have any tips to add to this list?

how to buy THE PERFECT FRAGRANCE

how to make your fragrance last all day

Are you thinking about buying a fragrance for someone as a gift for christmas? Here are few tips I found on bellaMUMMA to help make the decision easier.

Fragrance evaluator and expert, Erica Moore from Fragrances Of The World explains that with three simple steps, choosing the perfect fragrance can be easy, here's her top tips...

Research
“Ask a few questions and see if you can find out the names of three or four perfumes they have worn before or still wear. This will give you an idea of the family of fragrances they prefer,” says Moore.

Shop
Once you have identified the fragrance family that appeals most to the person you are buying for, ask the sales assistant to provide you with a sample from each of the groups in that family; Fresh, Crisp, Classical and Rich.

Make sure you write the names down for future reference and future gifting. “Don’t limit your search to just the major retailers – also look to some of the niche perfumeries too,” Moore suggests. Another handy tip is spray the perfume on your own skin and see if it evokes a response from the intended recipient.

Purchase It’s not always easy to do, but try to be intuitive in your choice and go with your initial reactions. “Our sense of smell is one of our most subliminal and primal senses,” says Moore. “If you don’t feel too silly, try to close your eyes when you are smelling the fragrance.

Most importantly don’t over-do it (odour fatigue can set in after only a few testers), take your time, and have fun!” If you really aren’t sure about your choice, take a safe option and buy them an ancillary product such as body lotion or shower gel. You can upgrade to the perfume next Christmas or birthday if they love it.

parenting monday BUILDING SELF BELIEF

Build Self Belief in Your Child

“Children's self-esteem influences their social behaviour and learning,” says Grose. “Children with low self-esteem are less likely to step out of their comfort zone to extend themselves, take risks or try new experiences. Quite simply if kids have a healthy level of esteem and feel good about themselves they’re more likely to make friends and succeed at pre-school and at school.”

“The way we interact with our kids on a daily basis influences the positive picture that they construct of themselves,” he says. “It’s important we let them know through our language and behaviour that they’re capable and worthwhile, then they’ll start to believe it themselves. The messages we send influence the way kids see themselves as well as our relationship with them. Encourage your kids to do things for themselves and focus more on what they’re doing, rather than result, to help them grow, develop and become more self-confident.”

How to promote self-esteem in your kids:

+ Build on your child's strengths and point out to them their areas of expertise.

+ Give kids realistic responsibility. Develop self-help skills from an early age.

+ Develop the courage to be imperfect. Let them know that mistakes are part of learning.

+ Help them to develop the attitude that anything is possible.

+ Establish an achievement board or star chart.

+ Look for small victories or achievements and celebrate them.

+ Help children set goals and stick to them.

+ Write letters or notes of appreciation and leave them under their pillow and in lunch-boxes.

+ Give objective feedback but begin with a strength or positive.

+ Compare them only to themselves.

11 things every KID SHOULD HEAR

Bill Gates gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school.

He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.  Here's his list:

1. Life is not fair - get used to it!

2. The world doesn't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

3. You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

 4. If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

5. Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

6. If you mess up, it’s not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

7. Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rainforest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

 8. Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

9. Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

10. Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop
and go to jobs.

11. Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

why not BE HAPPY JUST THE WAY YOU ARE

If we all focused more on health, they'd be fewer eating disorders, fewer people fighting obesity and fewer people wishing that they were someone they're not. Here are some of the ways we can all begin to shift our mindset from perfect to healthy:

1. Don’t chase 'perfect', chase perfectly healthy, happy. The best part about chasing healthy is, it’s totally achievable. Chasing some idealised vision of perfect does nothing for your self esteem or your health, and is pretty unrealistic. Focusing on your health also gives you bonus benefits: reduced stress, increased energy, boosted immunity, enhanced mood and a longer life. Plus you're not continually focused on what your body 'can't have' so you can have fun and enjoy yourself - and the occasional treat. Isn't that what life's about?

2. Focus on your good bits. There's got to be heaps of things about your body that you like. Maybe it’s your shoulders, your toned legs, your cleavage, or your back. Focus on what you like about yourself and your body instead of wishing you could be someone different. When you drop the notion of perfect from your mind, you'll discover you like more about yourself than you realised! Focus on being the healthiest you that you can be, and liking yourself more will follow.

3. Appreciate yourself. You need to appreciate where you are right now. Congratulate yourself on what you've achieved for your health and fitness, instead of always setting your goals to something unobtainable. Appreciate what your body has done for you! Create healthy living goals for yourself so you can be kind to yourself and your body to enjoy the satisfaction in knowing you are exactly where — and who you want to be. - bellamumma

DIY HAIR TREATMENT miranda kerr

Miranda told Elle France that she gives her hair a weekly boost shine with a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice. 'Minimum once a week, I mix both and I leave the mixture on as long as possible. This is a homemade recipe that my mum taught me and I still haven’t found a better one to repair my hair after the shows.' Shampoo out and lightly condition the ends of your hair. bellaMUMMA

beauty secrets NATALIA VODIANOVA

Most of the time she doesn't put make-up on - maybe just a little pencil to outline the eye - brown, not black. She says, "it's softer".

She loves doing her own make-up - and she puts powder down her T-zone to make her nose look more petite.

Her blush must always be applied right on her cheek, so it's not too close to her nose.

She always have lipstick and concealer in her bag.

She takes vitamins - Iron, B-6, B-5, and Berocca - she says it helps with energy, vitamin C and zinc.

When she's not in front of the camera, she always leaves her hair down.

is it time for a HAIRCUT

The beginning of this week I had both my daughters hair cut. My youngest daughter has a fringe and I have been cutting it for a number of years now as she struggled to trust the hairdresser, afraid she would cut the fringe too short or too much off the ends. She needed a good cut and we had a good 2 inches cut off as her was badly damaged from the hair straightener which she uses nearly every day.

I just had to share these tips I found on bellaMUMMA for signs your hair is in need for some TLC from a professional.

Your hairstylist cut layers the last time you got your hair cut, and now your hair is nearing one length.

You've had the exact same length for the past five years. To ensure your dead ends are gone, get a few centimetres chopped.

Your hair is looking thinner. The longer fine hair grows, the thinner it looks. A shorter cut can give you the appearance of thicker, healthier hair.

It takes you longer than usual to style your hair. When it never turns out the way you hoped, your cut is getting too long.
