how to DE-STRESS

cute

Listen to music

Putting some cute headphones on and listening to a favourite song does wonders. Studies have shown that it reduces stress by lowering both your heart rate and blood pressure.

Stretch

This is particularly important if you work in an office all day. Taking a moment to lift and stretch your legs or arms for a minute will help blood flow.

Move away from the desk

Get your eyes from the computer screen and your fingers off that keyboard. If you need to talk to a colleague, walk to their desk instead of calling them – it gives you a mini break and an opportunity to stretch your legs.

Acupressure

Using the thumb and index finger of your right hand, squeeze the tender spot between the thumb and index finger on your left hand. Rub the spot in a circular motion for three seconds and then switch hands.

Sit up straight

Having a good posture does more for you than just reducing back pain. Sitting straight with your shoulders back helps increase oxygen intake and flow.

Cold water

Cool those stress levels by dripping cold water onto your wrists. This will cool the arteries found underneath the skin of your wrists and calm your body.

Sip green tea

The natural antioxidants found in green tea not only help to reduce stress levels, but are also great for our immune systems.

Take a breath

Stop your work, close your eyes and concentrate on taking deep breathes in through your nose and out through your mouth. Count to three with each breathe and imagine breathing the stress out of you.

Laugh

There’s nothing like a good belly laugh to make you feel a little better. Take a moment to watch a short Youtube clip you know will get you smiling to increase blood flow and lower stress.

Stop and smell the flowers

Studies have shown that scents can significantly affect our moods. If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed, try using a lavender oil essence to lower tension.
